A RETRACTABLE AWNING...
(roof-mount retractable awning shown) ...opens and closes to protect its own longevity against the elements: wind, rain, et cetera. Retractable awnings offer automatic features like remote control motors. Retractable awnings have no front supports and are only attached at the building wall. When the wind picks up, or heavy rain occurs, the retractable awning needs to be closed. Furthermore, if no one is going to be home, the retractable awning should be closed. If a pool of rainwater should accumulate on the fabric, the added weight could rip the fabric, or worse, could cause the retractable frame to tear away from the house (some manufacturers offer optional front supports). Keep in mind that the retractable awning will not cool your house when it is closed and your patio furniture will be wet after a brief rainfall.
